I have a 99, F150, 5 speed MT, 4.2 V6, 2WD, short bed, Sport with a worn pinion gear. I plan to shop for a used axle but I don't know what will interchange with it.
Any suggestions?
If drum brakes, then 97 and 98 and some 99 axles, if disk brakes then 99 and 2000 I think. 2001-2003 plus 2004 heritage they switched to bigger wheel studs so the axles are right but the wheel studs are thicker.
Someone else should confirm the year the wheel studs changed. I have a 99 and it has drums but it seems many other 99's came with disks.
As far as I know, the bolt pattern is different for an E150 vs the f150. As well, the spring perch distances may be different as well. A person might be able to make it work but I doubt that it is plug-and-play.
When Ford introduced the new 2004 f150, they also continued to make the 97-03 f150 for one more year. As the trucks are very different, Ford labeled the older style F150 as the 2004 heritage f150 for that one year.
Yes, it will fit. The 9.75 has a longer pinion than the 8.8 so you will have to shorten or swap out your driveshaft. Again, I'm not sure which year they went to the thicker wheel studs so you would have to check them to see if your wheels will fit.
I would suggest you keep looking unless you are willing to do some extra modification work.
