I have a 1997 F150. I installed a trailer towing kit round 7 pin. I followed the instruction and replaced three different fuses after installation. The passenger side turn signal will not work. I replaced the bulb. The brake light works and the bulb is on when the lights are on it just will not blink. When the turnsignal is on it clicks very quickly. Any help or suggestions on where to look next is appreciated.
Sorry I wasn't clear. My truck passenger side tail light turn signal doesn't work. The left side works fine. This occurred after I installed a Brake boost for trailer brakes in preparation for a trailer that I will pull later this summer. My 1997 F150 has three fuse boxes in the engine compartment and one in the cab. I am wondering if I missed upgrading the fuses? The fuse box in the cab position 23 gets an upgrade from 10 A. The power distribution box in position one is upgraded from 20 to 30 Amp also in the power distribution box is slot 16 which already has a 40 amp fuse in it. The third and not carried in my owners manual has two fuses in it. From what I have gathered the towing related fuse is 20 amps and it is in the correct slot. I am not completely sure about the third fuse box though. Thanks
I have never heard of "upgrading" fuses. Fuses are to protect the original circuit they feed. If the fuses are made larger, then they will not properly protect the original circuit.
Anyway, left side rear turnsignal doesn't work. I re-read your first post, and the brake light and taillight portions do work correct? If the brake light works, that means the wiring to the rear and the bulb are good, since the brake light and the turnsignal use the same wire and bulb.
So that leaves a problem up front. Normally in this situation, there is something wrong in the steering column. Either the turnsignal switch or the wiring plug that feeds it can get loose. Tilt the column and see if the problem changes.
The common wiring I was talking about goes up to the turnsignal switch(Ford calls it the multi-function switch). The turnsignal switch mixes the flasher signal and the brake signals together depending on what position the lever is in, and sends the proper signal down those two wires, left rear and right rear brake/turn. It also has a separate section for the front turns.
