mix clear/color?
One technique is to use a single stage paint and cover it with clearcoat. The idea is to apply 3 or so coats of SS (so you have good coverage), spray on a 50/50 (SS/CC) mix, a coat of 25/75 (SS/CC) mix, and then cover it all with 2 coats of clear. The idea is to give you more 'depth' in your shine. Does it work? Never done it personally so I don't know.
As to mixing basecoat into your clear, I don't know. I can guarantee you one thing though. If it fails, you're on your own.

single stage yes, two stage no. i have added clear to the last coat at approx. 15-20% (thats mixed clear to mixed paint). you cant add clear to two stage due to the difference in materials. clear uses a hardener vwhereas base only uses reducer.
