zf5 input shaft play

have a 130k 97 zf5 and just installed a brand new clutch from normal use as this is a f450. Prior to installing the t/o bearing i just wiggled the input shaft to see how much play and noticed that is has some slop. About 1/8" of play, I would venture to guess to replace anything in the trans it must all be removed from the back side? thankx!

Correct. You have to split the case on the back end and then all the shift rails will come out as an assembly. I believe the preload specs call for 0.02-0.10 mm on the input shaft.

If you are going to do it, just rebuild the entire thing since you have to go in there anyway.
