The 4wd NP435 in my truck is at the end of it's life, popping out of 3rd and grinding into gears. Anyway I have another that looks to be in very good shape, however the on my way to buy it the seller slid the output shaft out too far and now it will not go back in. The problem looks to be the bearing inside the input shaft have fallen out of place and is now blocking the shaft from seating inside the input shaft.
To fix this can I simply unbolt the input shaft cover, slide the input shaft out, slide the output shaft in, place the bearings back inside the input shaft and hold them in grease, slide the input shaft back in?
If someone knows how to get these bearings back into place it would be very helpful.
Here's the bearing inside the input shaft from the internet
Here's the diagram of the trans. I'm a bit confused about the two sets of bearings "pilot roller bearings" and "loose rollers" is there a second set I should watch out for?
Yes, the "loose rollers" look to be the support bearings front and rear for the countershaft, the shaft in the bottom of the trans. The "pilot roller bearings" are the ones that fit inside the short "drive pinion" shaft and run on the output "main shaft".
In 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear, those rollers that fell out turn, the power goes down to the countershaft, and then back up and out the main shaft. In 4th gear, those rollers that fell out are locked together, and the power goes straight through the transmission.
The ones I'm worried about are 7118 in that picture. Aperantly there 14 of them which is good to know. I guess I'll pop the input cover off and see if I can reseat everything.

Usually you need heavy wheel bearing grease on the needles to hold them in place till you slide the shaft in.
