Good People,
I need help...as usual! I need to find 12 volt gauges for my '52 F-1. I do not want to burn the boy up. Anyone know where I can find such or know of someone that converts or how to convert.
As always your help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
If you want to use the stock guages, I would install a 12v to 6v regulator. One easy one to use is an LM317, do a search for specs. You may be able to just use a resistor to drop the voltage. You would need to measure the resistence of the guage system and then add an equal value resistor in series. The wattage rating would need to be high enough to handle the load.
If you are not concerned with originality, you could make a custom dash insert out of wood or aluminum, and use aftermarket guages from jegs or summit racing. If you want to use the original guages, I believe jcwhitney among others, carry a convertor.
