Old Blue SAS

I used to own this truck, I traded it to one of my friends, and after a few months of wheeling the ttb, he decided to go bigger so we put a radius armed dana 44 under it with 6.5 deavers, and Chevy tie rod
Ends.

I don't like the drop brackets for the radius arms that they built so I'm going to build some like this.

Do you sas swap gurus like that design, or is there a better cleaner way to
Pull off the radius arm drop brackets?

Here's the truck as it sits now (it definitely needs tires)

The truck has a welded 8.8 3.55 gears, 4 speed, 300 i6. The 6 cylinder will have to do for now, but hopefully it'll get upgraded to a 351w one day. I haven't personally ran 351w, but apparently that's what Myron's truck used to have and it seemed to do pretty good.

Do y'all think a 351 will make a pretty good motor for this application? The truck will probably run 35"-38" tires.

The design looks good but pleasetake the time to cut your pieces straight.

351w will make plenty power.

38's will be a 1 gear wonder with 3.55's(1 gear and wondering if it's enough)... I know this because i use to have that combo, now with 4.11's it did okay but still didnt like second at all, but could turn the hell out of them in first, then came the 5.13's and go to third gear now.

The 3.55s will have to do for now. I'm sure he'll want to gear lower in the future though.

I'd do the gears before I built a 351w.

meh, looks low buck. i'd just toss a sterling and a 3/4 ton d44 or d50 chunk in with 4.10's, but i'm a cheap ***.

Definitely take 77's and A/O's advice.

My Dad and I built up our truck, decided to use 4.56's and are already regretting not getting 5.13's (we run a mild 466 with 35's & 38's.). Depending on funds after our Garage and Drag car are built, we'll probably be swapping them for 5.13's this winter.

He could prolly get away with less, especially it being just a trail toy, but 35" boggers or what ever he decide's to run will take the breath out of one in a hurry. 38's are just that much worse, but if your way under geared you will end up toasting your tranny....

If its trail only with very little time above 65mph then gear as low as possible.

35s would be great with 4.88-5.13 and 38s would work well with 5.13-5.38.
