SD Regular Cab
SD Regular Cab
Hi! New Member Here
I'm pondering a 2014 350-XLT and am trying to decide between the Regular Cab (would really prefer the shorter wheelbase) and the Super Cab. I don't want to give up the long bed.
What I want to find out is your take on the SD Regular Cab trucks regarding leg room and general comfort. I did not like the feel of the Chevy Regular Cab: crowded with minimal leg room. Don't know about the new Ram. The Ford SD cab looks the biggest of the three.
I can't find any SD RC's on the lots to even sit in, and it seems while regular cabs are as scarce as hen's teeth around here, the super cab is everywhere with loggers and the forest service fleets. I understand why, but for a lot of the roads I travel, the shorter wheelbase and resulting clearance is worth giving up a back seat.
Any light you can shed will be appreciated.

The regular cab has the same legroom up front as any other cab; 41.0 inches. The supercab, while has seats and seatbelts, it really only good for extra inside storage. The supercab has 31.6 inches of rear legroom.
The regular cab only comes with the 8ft bed, and therefor the only wheelbase available is 137.0". For only a few inches more, you can get the extra cab space, although you would have to sacrifice some bed space and go with the 6.75ft bed. This would give you a wheelbase of 141.8".

OX, Thanks for your info. Problem is I want the long box but not the 21" longer wheelbase of the Super Cab. The regular cab of my 2002 Ram 1500 is huge compared to the new Chevy HD's and I was hoping the Ford SD regular cab would be too. Can't have everything???
2002 Ram 1500 is listed at 41.0" front leg room too, so it should be very comparable. Like I said, the front is unchanged between the cab models, so even if you cant find a RC, go sit in something and see how you like it.
Too many people on here rambling on about how the super cab is no good for adults. I drove my co-workers home for 8 months in the back of my super cab they were just fine, lol. I'm 6'1" and jumping back there myself I felt pretty comfortable, no frills seat or anything but hey. Its not like sitting in the back of a Camaro like people are trying to make it out to be.
The front is not going to be any different, least if you have a bench.

The Dodge regular cab has a lot of "stuff" room behind the front seat, so it feels big. I have never seen a current regular cab Ford SD so I can't compare. I do know that I like having dry inside cargo space a lot, and I'd put up with the wheelbase to get it with a Supercab.

I went from a std cab dodge, to a crew ford and could not get all the crap I had behind the seats of the dodge into the hidden areas of cab of the ford.
Next truck I ordered was a extended cab ford. I dont haul people, but wanted dry secure storage for stuff... and the super fits that need perfectly.
Also, the Dodge regular cab lets you recline the seat back and take a nap, you can't really do that with the other regular cabs but you can with a Supercab. Every once in a while that gets really important...

Hey, thanks everyone for the good info and the reality check. I'll probably end up with the Super Cab and long box. The old Dodge regular cab was ideal for my purposes, but now, even the new Ram regular cabs are smaller. (It has been nice reclining the driver's seat for a nap on a long drive.)
