My 2005 is indeed set up with the up-fitter consul in the cab, I've used 3 of the wires for interior accessories. Now I'm getting ready to fire up a new set of Cree Led very high bright fog lamps. Under my hood there are 4 factory wires just stubbed off and never used. could they be under hood power sources and hopefully made live through the upfitter switches? They are very very conveniently placed right on the wire loom near the firewall drivers side. If there hot spots im smiling. My truck must have had ambulance or towtruck package as it is equipped with dual alternators. The 4 wires are white blue black and red. What do you think guys?
Those wires are called the "Pass-Thru" wires, and yes you can use them for your upfitter switches if you want.
They do not have any power to them, but they are there for you to use when adding accessories. The other ends of the wires are under your dash close to where your upfitter wires are so it would be easy to connect one of your upfitter wires to one of the pass-thru wires so that you don't have to run a new wire through the firewall.
Those had me puzzled. Now I can understand, butt connector my last up fitter wire to one of the 4 pass through wires, then connect to the same wire under the hood... EAsy Peezy way to get the volts to the new fog lamp. Actually a U.S. border guard in Montana took a particular interest in the four wires also. "You been messin around under yer hood". "We saw some odd wires had been clipped off". Sorry sir that's the way it was when I got the truck. Hope that officer reads your very helpful post. Man are those guys efficient hey !!!!!!
Removed the fuse box as I have done maybe 10 times now. Searched with a super bright flashlight and found no sight of any one of the 4 "pass through" wires. The colours are simple white, blue, red and black. No where could I find even one. So I tagged on to my last remaining up-fitter wire and fished yet another wire through the firewall. All is well as the wire was the 30 amp fused one. Light now rides dead center just above the license plate bracket and between the stock fog lamps. I also wired in a led reminder light that comes on the dash when the fog is switched on. All I can say is that Cree bulb X6 tiny little setup EVER BRIGHT. Well worth the $125 bucks and free shipping. And it also looks very cool when its not on! Far far better look than those froggy looking large floppy 4 inch round old style shaky KC's and their likes.
However I had or have never had any problems finding and using the up fitter wires under the fuse box. What I needed to find was the location inside the cab where the mystery 4 wires under the hood emerge inside the cab. Cannot see them anywhere. As I learned in the first reply they are called pass through wires. Used to get 12v from the upfitters to under the hood or a sensor signal such as a boost readout wire to the inside of the cab. Now lets find them!
Thank You Big Time. Reading that link the simple sentence was "above the parking brake assembly" Laid down, looked up, hooked my finger around the large harness and out popped the 4 missing wires. Don't really need them right now, as all my wires are threaded through the steering boot. I'm sure they will be used in the future. Thanks again. Gosh I love this site and the people here who help out.
