I am seriously considering trading in my '11 250 gasser for a special order '14(when they start building them) 6.7.
So here are the pro's:
I can pull a house over.
I have a 38' gooseneck trailer the gasser pulls but when loaded its a bit much.
I can have it paid off by the end of the year.
Sounds like you're not happy with the towing right now, so I would say yes, if you can affoard the diesels price, and maintainance, go for it. I would certainly think you could negotiate a price considerably lower than 65-69 thousand though! My local dealer has a leftover 2012 f350 4x4 king Ranch on the lot right now for just under $50K
It isn't a business expense that I can write off. This would be my personal truck. The thing is, the gooseneck. I've have already maxed it out at 14,5K pounds. That is the max for my '11 250 gasser. I want that extra security if I do start pulling 14k on a regular basis. Lastly, the expense. I can afford it no problem. I'm just one of those guys that plans for a high price. I know the company I work for has one of those company discounts through Ford as well. I'm honestly thinking I should wait a year and see what happens.
What about starting small (<<<$69k) by re-gearing your current rig to be more inline with the weight you're going to be tugging around? Then, if you still aren't happy with it you're only out ~$2k.
That's the thing. I really like the truck. But this would be my ultimate truck, something I would keep until the wheels literally fall off. I think I'm just going to wait out this year and window shop. Then buy in cash next year.

I agree. I really like the 6.2 v8 and plan to get one - because it is (relatively) affordable for me both in terms of buying and in maintaining. One will be in sight soon whereas I generally can't touch a used 6.7 unless it's rough or no options. Add to that the fact that I tow 10k only a few times a year and it just makes sense for me.
OTOH if I had that much weight to pull that often and had the money I'd look for a diesel.
So I went through my companies corporate site and built the truck on there. I was shocked!! I almost swallowed my tongue. According to Ford the truck I built is 67,588 and change. According to our company site it is......you better sit down, 58,473 and change.
The model I decided to spec out is a SRW, Platinum. This is the order form. I'm still deciding on whether or not I should buy it.

So why not a dually? More payload, gives you more capability in the future. Depends on what you think you might do and where you'd go.
I first thought I wanted a DRW as my next truck for more capability but then I had to squeeze into a parking garage in downtown Charleston (SC). Now not so sure.
I was thinking almost the exact same thing. It would be nice for more load capacity in the future, but I like not having to worry about 6 tires and parking should be easier too. (I can't stand it when people take up a bunch of spots)

It all depends I guess... a friend of mine had a DRW when he had a 5er and he lived with it just fine - but he lived in the sticks and at work we've got a big parking lot full of trucks.
My driveway could handle one, and everywhere I go with the truck I park further away anyway and take up two spots. I'm just one of those "what if" guys. Makes me lean more towards the SRW although a long bed I'd rather have for the utility.
What that probably means is eventually I'll have a DRW I'm just taking my sweet time getting there
I just got finished doing what you are talking about for the same reasons. I pull frequently with a trailer that had my 6.2 overloaded by Fords standpoint - but the truck would pull it just fine - Stop Fine - etc.
I also did what you are talking about and upgraded the interior ( man it is sweet ) with the Lariat package + Lariat Interior Pkg (Heat/Cool Seats).
I think that I made the right decision - but time will tell....
