Hey everyone we just had some action at our place.
A bottle picker with a shopping cart, just entered my yard and I caught a glimpse of him just as he was about to the step on to my deck attached to the house out the back door.
This guy, from his story, was coming to KNOCK on the door to see if I would give him the Bag of Cans & Bottles {that he somehow saw from the alley 170' away.}
To get in the through the gate had to first figure out how to un-tangle the chain latch, then Push the gate against a 70lb bag of grass which was wedged between the gate & the garage.
Like I said, I saw him as he was just about to put a foot on the 1st step of the stairs to the deck.
The first thing I could think of was to Yell at him to stay out of people's yards & about having 3 seconds before I sic'd my German Shepherd on him.
I then Yelled to Michelle to "Let Killer Loose" there is a stranger in the Back Yard.
I swear, I have never seen someone "Fill his pants and run so quickly"
I told him the police are on the way to pick you up,too.
I'm still laughing, but I guess I shouldn't be.
This is about the 4th Bottle Picker (Alley Dweller) that has come into the yard in 3 months.
We've had 5 things stolen out of the back yard in 6 years.
Maybe it's time for some : Warning Attack Dog On the Premises" Signs nailed to the gate?
Hey Mil1ion
I hear you....I see alot of them around here in ditches by the fields...
They don't hurt no one but when they come in the yard thats a big no...
I have 2 Black Labs and I have a sign posted that says Beware of Hunting Dogs...lol my cousin she made it for me...I live out in the country so don't have to worry about people coming in my yard to much...But I would get some signs that might make them think twice....
Man Then I know you would never have people in your yard...
Tall Tales would be told about people being eatin in your yard and people loseing body parts

oops, wrong country
Ain't that the truth! We just had a incident here in Indiana where 3 young men forced their way into a home to rob it and beat the man and his wife up pretty good, The homeowner had a shotgun hidden under the couch and while they were busy he retrived it, now the tables have been turned, the 3 cowards ran out the back door and he shot and killed one and injured another. Heres the kicker, the law says if they are fleeing, they are no longer a threat,( He shot them in back as they were running),another thing they were black and he was white, seems thats never a good thing!! They were going to charge him with murder, but the public after hearing the the facts were outraged and the charges were lowered to firing a firearm in the city limits, still wrong in my opinion. But it seems the victim always has to pay in some way!!
So I guess my point is while trying to protect your family and property from lowlife, check local law so you wont be the criminal!
The sign says "Don't worry about the dog, Beware of hillbilly wife"

A little something to think about with the "beware of dog signs".........if some kid comes onto your place and get's bit by the dog, the juries and lawyers these days seem to feel that you have acknowledged that you have a dangerous dog and use that against you. I don't agree with this behavior at all of course, and the parents of that crappy, unsupervised kid would really hate having me on the jury, but it seems like this new problem has surfaced. Depending on your neighborhood, you might consider the sign which reads "never mind the dog, beware of owner" which also has a pic of a guy with a revolver in hand on it.
As far as country living goes around here, that just sets one up for new problems. Packs of dogs running at large, home burglery, your property along the road becomes a dump for couches, refrigerators, meth lab leftovers, etc, cattle rustling (happens here now and then), and deer destroy your garden and landscape just to mention a few things. Seems like when ya solve a few problems there are always a few more waiting
Originally posted by Mil1ion I also thought of having a Large Doghouse with a BIG Door & and attached to it is a 100' 1/2" chain within site of the alley.
Have a mangled baseball glove and ripped to shreds Dog Dish and we should be set.
Add a chalk body outline and some shredded clothes to top it all off.

AMATEURS WARNED AWAY
-And for 'Le Piece de Resistance'...
Install a buzzer somewhere near the gate, with a button at a convenient window where you can watch the fun!!!
NOTE: The most similar noise to a real rattlecritter is an empty windshield washer reservoir motor (tip of the day)
NOTE 2: Periodically, be seen with a long stick lifting up piles of brush in the yard as if looking underneath them for something. If questioned - state that you are looking for a friend of yours...
NOTE 3: I bet they clear out for miles around...
(He says, drily)
Actually if you post the sign the other party WAS warned, and therfore they cannot blame you when the dog attacks. The best thing would be get some gunpowder and an electronic ignitor, make some good sized bangers and place it at the gate (close enough to scare but not harm) and wire the ignitor to an alarm switch on the gate.
