Best engine mods in order

I have a 2000 7.3 Ex that I just got all the suspension issues worked out on. Now it is onto the engine. It has 300k and runs like a top. I am planning a PHP tuner, but was thinking of doing some other stuff first so I have have the right tune installed before I order it. I want to keep it simple and also most bang for the buck. Here is what I was thinking in order beside the tuner

4 inch Exhaust with muffler. Diamond eye or other
Split intake and exhaust elbow
Up pipes

What do yall think?

Matt

No "bang for the buck" really. Mainly better breathing and better EGT control when towing, especially with a custom tune.

Split intake and exhaust elbow
I have no idea what a split intake is.

Up pipes
More of a maintenance issue. None of the above will affect custom tunes or need to be done before a tune is written for your truck. Not like going to single shot injectors would.

Not necessary...I can move it!

Check your wastegate actuator. When I bought my truck for whatever reason the actuator was holding the wastegate slightly ajar when it should have been closed. If it's not working properly upgrade options include Dieselsite Turbomaster and Banks Big Head.

a good set of guages before you do anything. That way you'll know what improvements the other stuff gets you.

Thanks for all the info. What ever tuner I get I will have all the gauges and a backup camera. I want it all in one spot and want to be able to set alarms and such. I am torn between the DP and the PHP, but will do some more research. I am interested in this wastegate issue. Ever since I put high flow filter and removed the factor air box I get a loud PSSSSS sound every time the trans shifts. I wonder if this is the reason? and the spit intake I was talking about is the two piece turbo/intake elbow that replaces the factory one piece unit like the bladerunner from AFE. Is it worth it?

Before adding all this power is the rest of the truck able to handle it? Meaning driveline related, does the engine have any leaks, are you running original sticks (injectors) still? Before throwing a tooner at it I would do the fuel system mods first to insure that you are getting a good clean fuel flow.

Is this the original tranny with 300,000 miles? If it is you have done well , make sure it can handle the extra power.

So I didn't want to squat in this thread, but I also didn't want to start another thread that was so similar to this one. I too am a new owner of a 7.3L 2002 EX.

It already has a super chip (previous owner), but from all of my reading and research I have a different set of upgrades planned for the truck. I'd like to get some input and maybe help the OP out in the process.

My order may be off:

Performance
ISSPro gauge cluster (Tranny, EGT, Boost)
-6637 Filter
-Wicked Wheel 2
-Crank Case Vent Mod
-Foil Delete
4" turbo back Diamond Eye exhaust

Service
Quick Drain oil plug
Glow Plug Relay Mod (Stancor)

My truck has 217K miles, the top end has been rebuilt with new injectors & Glow plugs and the suspension is all buttoned up with a 3" lift, heavy duty sway bar new breaks all around.

Most of this will be done at one time since all the work is in the same place. I'm not looking to upgrade my international injectors, I just want the truck to come alive a little more.

Any thoughts we can benefit from?

Are you thinking of replacing your GPCM with a Stancor relay?

My 2002 doesn't appear to have a GPCM, but does have a visible relay just beside the fuel bowl like the one in the mod Pics on Guzzle's Mod page... That's where I get my ideas.

If it's an Excursion, it should have a GPCM.
The relay you are looking at is likely for the AIH. However, I am not super positive as I do not own an Excursion so my knowledge is limited.
