Batteries load tested good. Starter relay replaced. Still cannot get the truck to start with the key. I can use a screwdriver to arc across the solenoid and the truck will start right up. Someone mentioned to me that I might have triggered an anti theft feature during my wiring adventure in the last week. Does this sound plausible and what can I do to fix it? If not plausible, what would be my next step to check out on Betty so I can start her like a normal truck?
So many things could have gone wrong in there. First, try shifting to neutral... or at least hunt around with the shifter in the event the transmission shifter is out of adjustment.
Going with the Digital Transmission Range sensor, the wires that tell the PCM it's in Park are numerous:
First color is the wire color, second color is the trace color:
Yellow/Black Light Blue/ Black White/Black Light Blue/ Yellow Gray/Red
If any of these are cut, shorted, or damaged, the truck will not crank.
I'll start there this morning. I have tried it in all the different gear positions but I'll try that again before I start looking at the wires. Thank you.
I think I have found the sorce of the issue. Where the fuses are put into the fuse block seems to be wallowed out. In other words the fuse can be pushed all the way in but not be making a reliable contact. I am not sure if I can fix it other then by adding a strip of fuse tap into the hole to snug the connection up. Other then that I guess I could replace the fuse block but that sounds like more wiring then I would be comfortable with. Any other ideas?
The Central Junction Box (fuse panel) is fairly easy to disconnect, open up and check and/or tighten the clips. I have an 02 but it should be similar.
Let me know it you want to attempt and need directions.
