I bought a 66 f100 240, the guy told me the flywheel had a 'flat spot'. Well, after going through 2 starters finally took it to a shop to pull it out. I pulled the starter and counted 168 teeth on the flywheel ring, and ordered a 164 tooth ring, #C5AZ-6384-D (apparently I saw 1-6 and didn't worry about the last digit )
anyways, just got a call from the shop saying the number of teeth don't match. after some searching, found that some of the 168t rings from around that time were replaced with a 164t.
My question is, can I have him put on the 164t (it's the same inner diameter) and have it start properly?
(I'm suspecting the last couple starters were meant to mate with a 164t ring, hence the gnarled up ring/starter).
it's up on his hoist and he's giving me the night to figure it out, any advice would be welcome Thanks!
