New Member here, wanted to say i really dig this site, really helped me out when i recently heard a growling coming from my front end. I read some great posts on here about the whole front end tear down. Replaced all my ball joints, universals, wheel bearing hub units, locking hubs....all with ease thanks to the write ups on here.
So yesterday i came home from work, about 30 minutes later i hit the key on the truck and it wouldn't start. Kinda sounded like it wanted to but was starving for fuel. SO i grabbed the fuel pressure gauge and did a quick check......and No fuel pressure at all. Checked the fuse, Couldn't find a Relay in the fuse panel (Is there one for the fuel pump??). Anyway 4 hrs later the trucks starts right up like nothing is wrong.
Go figure, i'm 2 days away from my last payment ...now everything has to be going wrong....lol.
Do these fuel pumps act up like that ?? Any help would be appreciated.

If your fuel pump was weak but running, you would still get 10-15#'s of pressure if your gauge is working properly.
These pumps are heat sensitive and running fuel under 1/8-1/4 tank will heat them up. I try to keep a minimum of 1/4 full min.
When fuel pumps start to go bad, the internal brushes can start to lose contact, creating intermittent "open" and loss of fuel pressure.
Letting them "rest" or cool down will sometimes get you back on the road again, for a bit, hence, maybe why you are up and running again.
Maybe check you fuel pressure now for a better reading.
I wouldn't wait long if this is the problem.
Pretty common issue.
Thank r2, I have a new pump on order, picking it up tomorrow. I was wondering if the fuel pump was common issue or not or if it could be something else i'm missing.( I even checked the fuel pump inertia switch and it wasn't tripped.) Getting ready to go drop the tank, i'll check the pressure first. Never had any other signs or symptoms so this problem just kinda thew me for a loop. Truck has 110k on it and has been taken care of. Thanks again.
My 03 f350 had a intermittent stalling/no fuel pressure issue. I too replaced the pump only to have the same issue a week later. After throwing parts at it for a while I located the real issue. My fuel pump relay was overheating and intermittently failing. Here's the catch on my ymm thd relay is built into the backside of the central junction box. 466$ cjb and issue was resolved. Took me a year to finally figure it out. Hope this isn't your issue but you do also have a 03. If it happens again after your fuel pump install. Keep this in mind.
when my fuel pump went out it started acting up like that...first time I noticed anything was a slight hesitation while climbing an on ramp for freeway....then I had a couple of times it did`nt want to start....then it finally would`nt start at all...after replacing pump have`nt had issue since
Sorry for the slow follow up, just wanted to say thanks for all the help and advice. Changed the fuel pump and so far all has been good(knock on wood). Was really worried it would be something more serious(or expensive). Thanks again.

Did you drop the tank or replace in position? I know it's tight up under the truck but possible to not drop.
Glad to hear all is well.
