Perhaps you could enlighten me as to what "Reinforcement Webs" would look like.
The FE/FT crank saddle webbing may be of either the standard or the reinforced type.
Run of the mill 360/390 FE's have the standard webbing, 361/391 FT truck blocks have the reinforced webbing, along with performance FE blocks like the 406, 427 and 428PI.
Standard webbing, contains two ribs directed into the block's skirt.
Reinforced webbing, adds a third rib running horizontally into the block's skirt.
Thank you, Montana.
My parade is back on the march, maybe it is because my 390 has reinforcement webs as shown. Then again it maybe because my wild *** neighbors are cranking this thing up, AGAIN, about 100 yards behind my house: FestyFest Music Festival | Just another WordPress site
I think it's a hoot, although I don't go over there. Don't really have to. The wife sez: "I hope it rains on those M.F.'s
Thanks, Montana. Your knowledge of these trucks is is astounding.
I'm gonna have to post some pictures up and give this "conglomeration" Highboy a thread of it's own.
There is a 3/4" dia. oil drainback hole in the skirt web, right hand front corner of the block, opposite the oil pump mount pad. There is no bushing in the distributor bore, which mikes out @ 1.560". There are no vertical reinforcement ribs along the skirts. The casting date is that 3EY I mentioned previously, this is located on the filter pad. The heads casting #'s are C8AE-H, same as the 360 in my 76.
Kind of pointing to a 360 with a 390 rolling assembly or possibly just a stock 390? The truck VIN is F26YCU41616 and is titled as a 74. To further confuse things, the truck has a Dana 44 open knuckle with double puck disc brakes. I have read here that this setup was only available on 76 trucks.
Thanks, Keith
I believe your assessment is spot on, KawKaw... that is, a 360 block with a 390 rotating assembly...the blocks casting date puts it at May of '73 which coincides with your trucks '74 model year, and 390's weren't offered in 4x4's so a 360 block is a pretty safe bet.
The reinforced webbing still throws me for a bit, I know the post '73 service blocks (service blocks had vertical ribbing on the skirts) came with the reinforced webbing, so maybe the post '73 production blocks did as well, I honestly don't know, but your example points to that being the case.
As to your front axle, sounds like a swap has taken place (if it's a true '74) no open knuckle/disc brakes on highboys until '76.
