Rear breaks. Pedal is a little mushy and the parking break don't hold for s....quat. Also had a little bit of smoke coming from the pass side drum the last time I drove it. It didn't smell like shoes, and I see it is a little bit damp, but not soaked. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy the special hub nut tool.
Anything I should keep an eye out for or any issues I might run into?
I didn't realize the hub did not need to be removed to get the drum off. I'm used to them being all one on 3/4 ton & above from the old days. I pulled one axle shaft out and noticed some kind of adhesive or sealant on the bolts that hold the axle shaft. What should I use & what are the torque specs?
The front shoe break material had completely separated from the shoe on the right side and the inner seal is wet... Feels real thin like break fluid so I'm just going to replace the wheel cylinders & hardware kit
The drum is also scarred so I hope it can be turned.
While I'm at it I have a parking break cable that has been compromised.
Did mine last week; new drums, shoes and e-brake. Left was leaking when I pulled it and believe it or not, I had a spare seal in the glove box from a couple of years ago when I did the front and it fit!!! take that to the bank!
