TransferFlow 50G Replacement Tank

I've got a question for folks out there who have installed a TF 50G replacement tank. I didn't have time to do this one myself so I had a local installer do it for me. They were not on the list of installers but came recommended and they said they could do the work.

Well, their first install, without asking, they modified the replacement float by bending it so it allowed more reserve fuel. Sadly it resulted in the gauge to max out at 7/8 of a tank because the float was hitting the top of the tank. I told them that I wished they would have asked because I haven't read about anyone needing to do that in the several months of looking and comparing I did before purchase.

Anyway, so I went back 2 weeks later to use some of the diesel before they dropped it to put it back the way it should have been. Well, I think they again tried to create more reserve but this time fix the 7/8 is actually full issue. What I have now is 10g(20% of the tank) of reserve and the gauge reading full at the 42g mark.

So my question is am I missing something? If they installed the tank as TF designed would I be at risk of running out of diesel? Are other folks having to modify the float to fix the issue?

Thanks in advance

Leo

There is a user that has the TF tank that you are describing but he is out of pocket for another 2 weeks at least. I know he has complained that he can't get more than 44 or 46 gallons in the 50 gallon tank and it was an annoyance. I'm wondering if the tank has an incredibly large reserve and that is what is causing him to think he is "empty" when he still has several gallons of fuel in the tank.

I bring it up because it's possible the shop that installed your tank may have seen this and tried to correct the problem, but caused another one instead. I'd ask them to install the product as designed and directed. If they bent the float without authorization, they are responsible for it working. It's not working properly and they can fix it or replace it back to what was shipped in my opinion. Just know that you may cause a problem with only having 44 or so gallons that are usable in the tank if my recall of Darren's issues are correct.

On my TG 50 gal tank I can only get 47-48 gal in it tops.

Doesn't bother to much as the extra capacity is better than the stock tank alone. 1-2 gal I don't sweat it.

But I would have them fix it at their cost so you can run normal.

I have the transfer flow 50 gal tank that sits in the bed. I can pump the full 50 gallons, my trax II transfer system reads full 50gal for the tank and it reads 26gal for the factory tank. No issues whatsoever and I did not do any modifications.

I guess I would confirm the trax connections and model numbers, and wiring (if you have it).

Also, I would take the float out myself and restore it to its original config.

Then, I would make sure the trax system is set with the right settings. I've never heard of anyone having an issue, but I'm no expert either. I installed it all myself and it was pretty easy.
