I had a pretty good weekend. Took the old truck out to our local dragstrip and beat the tar out of it. Drove it out there, made 15 passes, drove it home....no problems.
Twice a year our local dragstrip has what they call a Hot Rod Rumble where they have a test and tune night and races for 1973 and older cars and trucks.
I was a little nervous. When I ran last year I had a best time of 15.2 in the 1/4 mile. Since then I got rid of the 4.11 rear gears and replaced them with 2.75 gears. As a bonus the 2.75 gears are a Trac-Loc unit.
The new gears didn't hurt me too bad. My best time with the 2.75 gears was a 15.6. The bummer is that the Trac-loc isn't working as good as it should, I guess its time for some new clutches in it....oh well.
I'm pretty happy with the 15.6. I don't think thats too bad for a brick of a truck with a 140 thousand mile stock Cadillac engine in it.
Awesome! What do you have up front for suspension?
Next summer I'm planning on sliding in a Jag IFS. If that turns out good I might do something like that with my truck just to see how it goes. I'll have a fresh 302 and a solid front end. I wouldn't dare it with my stock breaks and suspension!
Sounds like fun, Bobby! Give em hell. A matched race between you and Ross would be cool! Don't forget, he just had his flathead rebuilt, and he's got it humming like a fine watch.
Hey, Bobby. Sounds like you had a great time and glad the truck performed well. That new rear end should lower your cruise RPM nicely even if it is a little slower out of the hole. Keep up the good work.
I have stock suspension up front but I have added power disc brakes and power steering.
Joe, LOL...there was a Model A roadster pick-up running the original 4cyl. He was making solid 28.8 second passes. It was a great looking little roadster and the crowd loved it. Sometimes its better to look good than to go fast.
This track does test and tunes every weekend also, but twice a year they limit it to 1973 and older cars and have a little car show as well. Its a lot of fun.
