hey guys im installing the new RR billet wheel and I have the turbo back together but i hear every once in a while when you spin the shaft it sounds like the wheel slightly scraps the housing!!!!! is this ok?? will it just wear in???? its not terrible I just noticed it and decided to give you guys a shout.
That is never a good thing and wearing in is a bad idea. All those little particles don't react well with the internal components of a high compression engine. That being said, it MIGHT be, if you haven't put the turbo back on, that the little bit of space that the oil on the bearing takes up and currently isn't there, is the difference. I am sure other more knowledgeable poster will chime and and confirm or dispute that.
There shouldn't be any contact between the wheel and housing. I could press the wheel to one side while turning it on my 38R and nowhere did it make contact. Do you have any play in the shaft/bushings? Compressor housing seated correctly?
everything is seated correctly and i was thinking the same thing since there isnt any oil in the bearings it may be that..... I dont have any end play. Im going to try and back off the comp housing bolts and retorque them.. I went by what clay said in his install page... I did torque the wheel to 65IN Lb should i go more maybe seat the wheel a little more????
Not good! Did you check to see if the old wheel touched? Are there marks on the housing where it has been touching before? I would say one of two things, bad wheel or
it needs to be rebuilt. Not hard and pretty cheap for the kit. Call Clay, get his opinion before you use it.
well guys I decided the put the turbo back in the truck and drive it. I feel that it was more the bearings then the wheel since it didn't do it every time. It comes and goes but I did call clay and im just waiting on his call back. I also needed the truck since its my DD.
