I haven't done the math on just mods.
They are very capable engines. Im no Cummins hater, nor am I somebody who thinks that the cummins is something special, its nothing but an overbuilt 5.9L engine that will handle loads comparable to higher displacement engines... However, people like to compare its internal parts to the V8 diesels, and its just not a good comparison. The 6cyl parts have to handle 25% (Or 33% depending how you look at the numbers ...) more load at the same power levels, that is why the stuff is so beefy compared to the Dmax and PSD parts... That doesn't make it better. As far as the 4BT goes, its no less than a 12v as far as what it is, if mileage is something you are after, than by all means, that is an option. However, I don't know if I would like to put 400hp to 3.9L of diesel for a long time... People talk about the reliability of an IDI at the power level Im at, but its about twice as bad for a 3.9L engine at the same power.

Bottom line, do what YOU want, if a cummins is something you really have a hard on for, than do that. Its all about making a truck you are going to be happy with, and nothing else, it doesn't matter what anybody says.

Unfortunately in my old age(23) I've got the ability to have a hard on for a lot of cool stuff haha and just started school so money is tite. But I will graduate with zero debt so it will all go in my pocket so who know what could happen. But for now or maybe forever I'm going to stick to the idi platform and see where it ends up. I too think that the idi has a lot of room to grow and be developed. 400hp is an awesome number but I don't think that's all they are able to make. So I'm sure in a year or so the HO idi will be a potent motor even by today's standards. I'm very excited to see what happens and I want in a very small way to be apart of it. Thanks for the opinions guys
