I have a 1985 Ford E-350 with a 460 engine. It has about 100,000 miles on it. Still runs good. Just want to know if the motor and transmission are worth anything. Also has a 410 rearend in it , is this worth anything?
Yes, it is worth something.
But you fail to mention what trans you have.
Mine (85 F250, 460) had a T19 that was run dry, so I am building a C6 to replace it right now.
In my opinion that is the best trans you could have behind that engine, but if you go to a wrecking yard and pull off the tail housing off an older C6 that is in an older pickup with a FE series engine in it, the dousing is a lot shorter and the strongest you could have, it has a massive bearing right at the yoke.
The output shaft does not need a snap ring to retain it so it will come out of the trans with the housing, but to remove your other
longer output shaft, you will have to tear apart your trans to get at the snap ring, and of course then there is the length
you have to deal with as it needs to be longer now.
I always use this housing whenever I can, like now when pulling my T19 and installing the C6, but I have to shorten my drive line which is cheaper than lengthening it.
