well the same problem persists at a smaller level...
Ive been having a misfire since about a month after I finally got my baby back on the road. Figured it was a fuel delievery problem so I would buy a fuel filter every other wek or so to no avail. Tried a fuel additive which helped for a day then bailed on me. I just changed all the spark plugs as now Im thinking it might be in the ignition somewhere, and also changed #5 wire as the metal tip that connects to the plug stayed on the plug when I pulled the wire. Since then it helped somewhat but now it almost didnt changed nothing. Once I am up to 45-50 or so it cuts out and runs smooth as a bell(every once in a blue moon it backfires in that area too) until I slow down it starts to misfire a bit, sometimes it hardly ever does depending on Georgias great weather Im guessing. Now the question...before I buy a set, could it be in the plug wires? I pulled 1,2 and 5(while running) and it misses more so those arent it, but could it be 6 as when i pulled it I got jolted everytime the dizzy fired...could it be that with bad insulation its trying to fire off the block and not always in the cylinder???Any suggestions please as it keeps bugging when i may or may not get up to speed as Id like and the jumping from the miss is getting a bit irritating.
Have you looked at the inside of the distributor cap? Sounds to me like you could have some arcing going on in there. How long have the cap and rotor been on the engine?
Well I decided to check all the plug wires coming from the dizzy itself and all were good till I hit #2 and got zapped again. Swapped it out with a wire I had from one of my old 360's and it runs like a champ now. Still got a slight hesitation you can just barely hear at idle so thats in the fuel system I think. At least now I can run it like Ive been wanting to, and not like a 5500lb turtle going down the road.
