That's still 600 lbs unaccounted for. I wish it was possible to find concrete numbers, I've seen 460s claimed to be anywhere from 570-720 lb and IDIs from 860-1400lb.
Hundred from a 2WD front axle. 100 Pounds for transfercase and front driveshaft. An E4OD weighs right in at ~275 Pounds. A ZF5 is around 200-250 pounds I believe. An M5OD is about ~100 pounds.
So if you have a 2WD, 5.0 F-250 M5OD, It's a stretch, but when you start adding things up it is not too unreasonable.

They can vary a little from different years and setups, but I don't know that any 460 would get as low as 570... I'd say 650-720 is an accurate range for a 460. That's weight with the accessories (alternator, steering, a/c). The difference in weight (with about a 70 pound range) can be accounted for for different setups for different years and models. A 460 with a/c might be 30 lbs. more than one without. Head designs varied in weight (especially if you look at aluminum vs. iron), intake manifolds varied some.
As for the IDIs, I'm not sure, but I've always heard they're around 1200.
Hey guys. Iv been a fan of the ol 1990 Chevy 1500 SS 454. They were definitely the hot rod truck of their day! Iv always been a big block fan.
Here recently, I purchased a 1992 F-250 w/ a 460. Its definitely a reliable truck with power to boot. My question here is which is better?
The Chevy has a 3.73 LS rear end. My Ford CAN have a 4.10 posi rear but has 3.55 open now .
Chevy is of course 2wd, and mine is 4wd.
Chevy: 230 hp 385 ft lbs. Ford: 250 hp, 400 ft lbs (couldn't find exact numbers)
Chevy has 3 speed automatic, mine has 5 speed manual.
Chevy weighs somewhere around 3800ish lbs, Ford weighs 4800ish
Chevy $8000 in good condition, Ford $3000 in good condition lol!
I guess my biggest question is, who would win in a straight up drag and which is funner to drive?
My truck, 1995, F-250, Dana 50 TTB, single cab, long bed, 4x4 (BW1356), E4OD, 3.55 gears, 265/75r16 rubber on stock aluminum rims, DMI hitch Quic-Cush'n II, B&W Turnover ball gooseneck, 1 full tank, one half tank of fuel, almost no junk in the cab or bed, and myself at 195 lbs crossed the scale at 6208 lbs last time I checked.
Your Ford should be around 6000-6200 lbs with some fuel and a driver. The 3.55 gears are not going to help you any. 230 HP through the 3.55 gears, especially if you have anything other than stock sized tires, is going to really hurt acceleration (comparatively).
If your Chevy truck really does weight less than 2 tons, you've got essentially the same horsepower pushing 30% less weight. Combine that with numerically higher gears and less drive train loss for a 2wd truck and your Chevy will be way faster in a drag race.

I just had my truck on a scale 2 weeks ago, just to back up your weight for accuracy:
I've got an 89 F250 (RCLB) Sterling 10.25 rear, Dana 44HD Solid front, 351w, NP435, BW1356, some extra springs in the back, 1 full 19 gallon tank of fuel, a frame mounted hitch, my bumper that weighs probably 300lbs, and just me in the truck (210lbs), I'm just over 6000lbs total. So that's pretty consistent.

As I read it it, the trucks being compared (4800lb F250 4x4 ZF5 460 vs 6000lb F250 4x4 ZF5 7.3) were equipped exactly the same except for engine, therefore front axle, transmission and transfer cases would not be a factor.

The one listed at 570 had tons of aluminum and was pretty stripped of accessories. He claimed it only increased the weight of the car by 60lb from the small black it replaced (289 IIRC).

so that means a 289 is only 60 pound heavier than a aluminum 460? plausible but i would have to see proof to believe it
573 lbs according to that link. One of the guys on fordmuscle just did an alloy head bb swap in a mustang and only gained 60 lbs in total over the clevo
I just returned from Weighing "The Yellow Monster"
We have a total weight gain of "Sixty Pounds"
With the Cleveland the weight slip was 3,700 pounds, with the 468 (aluminum head) BB the new weight slip is 3,760 pounds.
if that chevy weighed 3800 pounds the ford would win. why? well after he launched the torque from the 454 would twist his truck like a pretzel. i would be scared to drive a full size 3800 pound truck
