Does anybody know what year super duty spring will bolt in to the front of a 76 high boy?

Try posting that question in here....

Offroad & 4x4 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Rough crowd, but they know the answer.

They will talk about a 99-04 SD gas truck BDS brand 8" for the front, and discuss spring pad pin distances and how it will push the axle out of the center of the fenderwell, but should discuss how to fix it.

If not I have some info from a great ol wise FTE sourse, I'll ck back shortly with it.

The following is courtesy of 75F350...

1) grind Sd spring bushings to fit existing spring hangers
2) drill hanger and shackle to accomodate larger mounting hardware.
a) drill hanger to 18mm or 3/4". If 3/4" is desired, ream bushing as well.
3)Make a new shackle that is longer than stock. 5.25" seems to be alright as long as the shackle bushings in the pivot are new.
a) replace shackle pivot bushings with toyota poly bushings, and you wont have to remove the steel sleeve within the pivot itself. This is difficult to do. Using the toyota bushing eliminates the need to grind and remove the pivot. (Toyota 4X4 early 80's spring bushings are almost a direct fit.)
b) new center bolt can be 9/16" and all new hardware should be used. This will also fit the new spring very well.
4)Some springs will require the removal of the military wrap leaf. This leaf may be too large to fit inside of the front hanger. Removal also increases overall wheel travel.
5) Shackle angle is increased, so verify that the shackle will not strike the frame during suspension cycles.

What not just get the proper 73-77.5 Highboy lift kit? And not the 77.5 to 79 lowboy lift kit?

Did you get a deal on some SD springs?

Not to threadjack, but I've found those springs with a 6" lift for $150/ea fronts. That's my motivation for this kind of lift.

But, mine is on a 78 Scab, does that list pertain to it too? I can't remember.

Both Skyjacker and Superlift have a 6" and pretty sure you can run 38 to 40's with that lift.

brian1080 ah the ol 5 lug 1/2 ton with leaf spring front end because it a supercab situation.

You I'm sure you can get that stuff to bolt on with some work and then its steering configuration time.

You're looking at custom springs, from the likes of Deaver or National spring....big $$$

Skyjacker 6" springs for a 79

Item #F760K-N / Skyjacker Suspensions

Only difference is the rear spring width on the 76 is its 2 1/2 wide versus 3' right? So get the 6" front spring only and do a rear shackle flip with some Rough Stuff or Sky Manufacturing kit....

The 6" lowboy springs only net 4" of lift on a highboy (actually a little less than 4")
