General Mods Question

Since I have to have my injectors rebuilt I am stuck with the stock/stage 1/stage 2 delima. I am planning on getting another truck and putting the rebuilt injectors in the new truck.

I plan on doing the following mods at minimum to the new truck:
  1. EBPV delete
  2. Down Pipe
  3. Cat/Muffler Delete
  4. Air Filter
  5. Chip
  6. Gauges
My question is what additional mods are required for stage 1 or 2 injectors? I am trying to build a cost estimate above what I have listed so I can decide what injectors I want.

If I stay stock or maybe even stage 1's I might move the 1.0 turbine housing over to the new truck also.

With the list above. I would add stage 1s and custom tunes.
I dont believe an upgraded HPOP is necessary for 1s, but possibly.

A T500 is overkill for just stage 1s...but you might want to find a 17* super duty HPOP just to keep the stage 1s happy.

I would talk to Jim Rosewood when you do your injectors to see what HPOP he recommends.

Edit: Whats the reason for the new truck? Getting a CC?!?!?!?

If you plan on doing any towing you will want a hpop.
With stageI's you won't need the 1.0 housing. Plus with the 1.0 housing, stageI's and no IC egt's are going to get hot fast.

I'm no expert by any means, but my list is a lot like yours. I want to get the stage 1s and the DP Infinity tuner. I like the look of the gauges, but it is hard to beat the consolidated package you get with that new DP. Then you don't have to buy all the stuff and you can customize the view. I've also got the FS2500 on my list to keep the oil clean and the IH waterpump to add a cozy filter that is out of the way and doesn't leak. Figure I need to find $3000 laying around somewhere and about 4 days to tinker.

So basically Stage 1's you might want an HPOP but for stage 2's you definately want an HPOP and thats about the only difference? I thought you needed electric fuel for the 2's.

I ran 180/80 stageII's with stock fuel. Just make sure you have good fuel psi.

FWIW, if you go to stage 2's your stock turbo isn't going to be happy at all.

I throw a code on my Stage 1's. They are starving for oil at WOT.Jim said that they can be run with stock HPOP, but to keep from throwing a code under hard pulls the upgraded HPOP will be necessary. I notice that my power dies out on top end too, I wonder if I had more oil going to them, if it would continue to pull harder past 85 or 90. I don't really understand the mechanics of it. Could just be a combination of big tires and 4:10s, but i feel like there is plenty of RPM's left to get more out of it.

That jogged my memory.

Yeah, Its starting to come back to me now. The reason you are running out of power at the top end is because the HPOP cannot keep up. So when the pressure starts to drop you are not able to deliver as much fuel to the engine or atomize it as well. (Plus wind resistance is pretty strong on these trucks at 80+ mph)

Its amazing how much you forget when you don't actively use what you have learned.

I am thinking stage 1's is what I will go with. I don't want to have to worry about a turbo repair down the road.

Thanks for all the replies.

Would the stage 1.5's be too hard on a stock turbo? They have a 30% nozzle.

I originally went with 1's but even there, you're going to smoke your trans. I would be ready to build out an auto, or upgrade clutches. I smoked two trans this year, and I don't even abuse mine that much.

My dilemma now is - if I get a bullet proof trans - Then the only thing keeping me from 400+ is a turbo, bottom end, stage II's and re-burn. Thinking I should of just went II's to begin with and tuned them down for when future MODs roll in. However - knowing me I would have made 1 of the 6 tune's take advantage of stage II's and fried my Turbo a long time ago!

Speed wise these trucks are big turds without upgraded injectors, so you will be happy with the new found life. Good luck with the decision!

Drop in stage 1's and roll.

No supporting mods needed but a chip.

Mine makes 27-30 pounds of boost with 1's. I think the limit for this turbo is 30 pounds of boost? I've heard of a few people running II's with stock turbo, but I would think it's a ticking time bomb if you're running it hard.

If you do 1.5's just have an emergency fund to replace it - but like my earlier post you will wish you had II's if you have to upgrade a turbo, and a tran's.
