I have a 2013 FX4 and I found the three screws holding the headlight fixture, I removed them and it was loose but I didn't want to pull to hard without being sure I should. Is that all that holds that assembly on? I know it's expenseive so I didn't want to pull to hard.
I'm trying to get to the running lights wires to add some running lights. I made a bar with some lights to put behind the grille. Is there somewhere else those wires are easy to get to?
I'm waiting for Helm to release the wiring manual for sale. Until then it's hard for me to find out what wires are doing what.
I have a 2013 FX4 and it came with the HID lights. They are the best focused beam I have ever seen. Maybe you can find a pair off of a wrecked truck sometime to swap out.
I only need to get the headlight out to acess the running lights circuit so I can add some more running lights.
Wow, pretty much an idiot proof video. I would have been scared to break something by just "yanking it out of there" before seeing this. Good link, rep sent
tug baby! i put in some of the "best" silverstar bulbs and couldnt tell a difference. these headlights suck on my '12.
Same here, I used the Phillips equavalent to Silverstars and there was no difference that I could notice. I ended up with some LED driving lights. Now THOSE helped!
Thanks for the help...I got the headlight out and installed a wire tapped off of the yellow/brown wire that goes to the running light. It only has 8.5VDC on it so it wouldn't trigger a 12V relay. I want to use a relay to not add much of a load to the existing circuit.
The research I've been doing is pointing towards using a 6V relay with an inline resistor to drop the voltage down. The relay has a 22 ohm coil so if I use about an 11 ohm 1 watt resistor I should end up with about 6V across the coil.
I'm going to look for some parts locally this weekend but I'll probably have to end up ordering them.
