Hi all. First timer here. Just swapped my motor out in by 89 Bronco with a 302. Changed over to Mass Air and added a Crane cam to the long block. I just started it for the first time to do the break in and only ran it for about 5 to 10 minutes and the temp gauge went up high. Shut it off and noticed that engine was hot but the coolant line to the radiator were cool. What would be causing this condition? And also it will not idle. Has this something to do with the Mass Air or a vacum issue. All vacum lines are hooked up. Any ideas would be great. What to start to drive the "BRONC" after a couple weeks of driving a Focus. Little to small for me.
Did you install the lower intake? Perhaps the intake gaskets are not oriented correctly and the coolant flow is being blocked. If you received it as a long block, perhaps it's the thermostat as mrwizard suggested.
Thanks for the answers. Checked the thermostat. It was in correct, spring towards the intake. I read in the manual that you are supposed to put the gasket on the intake first. I put it on the housing. Would that make the thermostat function improperly?
Any easy ways to get the engine from being vapor locked. To much air into the engine block. Any easier way than just running the engine and forcing out? When checking the thermostat there was no coolant in the lower intake. Must have enough air that its not letting circulate. Anyone ever have this problem?
