6.2L V8 - really 2 spark plugs?

I was looking under the hood of my new F250 with the 6.2L...and I only see one plug wire going down to each cylinder. Yet, everywhere I have read that the engine has two plugs per cylinder. Is this really true? Does it just fire them both simultaneously?

Any detailed tech info in this engine?

Thanks

Thanks Texastech...I guess that plug wire is coming off the coil, which sits directly on top of the other plug. I didn't realize the other plug was on the other side of the combustion chamber. My folks have a Mercedes-Benz with dual plugs per cylinder, but they are easily visible. The plugs on the truck don't look to easy to get to, but who cares with the long interval life...

I took a 2012 6.2 for a test drive before I settled on a low mile used 08 with a 5.4. The 6.2 scoots! Thats next in a year or so.

I thought it was going to be somewhat expensive to do the plugs on my old V10, Ford managed to top that one pretty easily with this motor.

I'm waiting for the diesel crowd to chime in, "what's a spark plug?"...

BTW - troverman, here's a thread where the 6.2 lead engineer hung out on FTE and answered some questions for a while. Some good reading:

They understand if you tell them it is a pulsating glow plug.

I wonder if there is any indications if one spark plug on a cylinder is not firing? Would we even know?

Looking at your username bet you were thinking something like a mag check? Imagine a fault code pops up.

Yup. One bad coil on my V10 was obnoxious; it shook the whole truck whenever you were under throttle. I always wondered if running on 9/10 would be noticeable, and I was proven wrong that day. Running 7/8 would be even more obnoxious.

I know a bad plug/cop wouldn't trip the CEL on the older trucks, not sure if the 11+ will.

Easy way to tell. Unplug one of the wires coming off a coil and see what happens.
