Hey all,
When I had my first Ford, an '86 F150, it had an excellent bumper/hitch I've seen and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what it's called so I can look for one for the new Dent sometime.
The bumper was just a heavy piece of flat steel. The hitch wasn't a receiver but a solid tongue sticking out the back of the bumper about an inch thick. There were grab handles you could raise on either side of the tongue to allow it to slide back and forth, and a third handle offered some in and out movement, which made hooking up to a trailer by your lonesome was about as easy as it gets.
Anyone have any idea where this thing came from and whether or not they're still available? I loved it.
(Wrong end of the truck, but I still like to remember 'Rusty' from time to time...)
Amazingly, after looking a bit I was able to find a (not fantastic) photo of the tongue:
I don't know about that specific one, but I know that style is still available. Lots of farmers use them around here. The truck I've been using to haul anhydrous tanks with has one and it makes a huge difference pulling those heavy carts. When I get to my next truck project, I plan on finding one of them for it.
**After over 30mins searching, I found some searching for; cushioned hitches and proximity hitches. Not much yet, but here's one site.
DMI is the big brand that comes to mind when I think of cushion hitches. About half the 8 lug trucks around here are currently farm trucks or used to be, so everyone has a cushion hitch in my town. 90% of the time they are DMIs
