Bronco wheels on f150

Sooooo I snagged a set of wheels from the junkyard I thought came off a bronco and would fit my truck. They're ford rims, stamped steel, more commonly seen on the next gen of our trucks but I have seen them on some early 80's broncos and a select handful of XLT model f-truks. They're the wagon wheel look-a-likes with a chrome trim ring and center cap.

So my question is this....were these a one size wheel or did ford make different size rims? By size I mean their width....mine appear to be a 15x8 if that even possible and didnt feel like they fit too well on my front. They don't have tires on them and While I was doing work on the front I test fit it.

just curious if I snagged them up too quick. I know I can always sell them but theses suckers are heavier than then alum jeep rims with the tire the previous owner stuck on my truck

Thanks!

No such thing as a Bronco only wheel. Used the same 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle as E100/150's, F100/150's, but...

Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle.

Styled steel and aluminum wheels introduced in 1977 E150's and F100/150's. Bronco's got 'em in 1978.

The wheel physically fits on the lug studs/hub I just feel like its rather wide/large and felt like it was rubbing. I just want to make sure before I go invest my first born child in new truck tires that I have the "proper" rim. I know Oldsmobile and Pontiac are NOT ford but back in my cutlass days you could get a Pontiac rim for the cutlass but offset we're different, etc...

Anyway just making sure I'm not putting an over sized rim on the truck.

Are these the wheels you are talking about?

If so, Ford called these wheels Deluxe Argent Styled Steel Wheels. They were used on the upscale F150s and broncos from 1982 - 1991. These came in two sizes: 15" x 7" and 15" x 8". The 15" x 8" size is most often seen on the Broncos and the 4wd F-150 Lariats. The 15" x 8" version has an extra "step" between the wheel face and the trim ring to make up the extra width the 15" x 7" version didn't have:

The 1982 - 1989 version had a red and black center cap and two red stripes on the aluminum trim rings (seen above). The 1990 - 1991 version had a black center cap and the red stripes were deleted from the trim rings.

There are several versions of these hubcaps (Ford called 'em ornaments), chrome or black plastic.

Hubcap retained to wheel with (3) self tapping black (388761-S47B) or chrome (389465-S45) screws and either (3) steel (D8TZ-1A100-A - use w/styled steel) or nylon (D7TZ-1A100-A - use w/styled aluminum) anchors.

The anchors are hand pressed into the wheel, the hubcap is placed on, then the screws are installed, expanding the anchors.

What happens: After the hubcaps are R&R'd a coupla times, the anchors lose their ability to retain the hubcaps. Rounding a corner, the hubcaps can fly off taking the screws and anchors along with them.

I dunno what a used hubcap is worth, but the last MSRP was about 100 bucks. I sold a plethora of these caps back then, mainly due to faulty anchors, causing the whole shebang to go bye-bye.

Granny check ebay for tires too. There is a shop in ohio selling bfg at 31/10.50/15 for about 650 free shipping. If i bought local tires alone would be 778.99. Mount and balance seperate.

not too bad especially with free shipping. I just priced a set of BFG All Terrain TA/KO's. Sam's club has them for like $162 and change here in NJ. Other states may be cheaper/less tax/less fees etc. They also charge $15 flat rate for mount/balance. But I will check ebay and see if there are any other deals.

SO to conclude, the 15x8 rims were meant to fit my truck correct? I hate sounding like an idiot here but $800 in tires to go on rims that 'might fit' kinda worries me a little! It just felt like the rim was rubbing when I put it on last night.

OH another side note, anyone re-pinstripe their trim rings? Mine either didn't come with pin stripe or someone scraped them off.

Some useful information, thanks!

If your hand is steady and with the truck jacked up, one can spin the whole wheel assembly and paint the ring.

As always, be very careful when working around a raised vehicle [use stands] and be sure to clean and prep the area to be painted.

Was there different backspacing on the Deluxe Argent Styled Steel Wheels that you were referring to in this thread?

I had these wheels on my 1984 E150 and they were fine. However, I bought a set of 15x8 for my 1987 E150 and the tire rubs at the front of the steering knuckle.

Wanted trim rings FOTZ-1210A

Guys,
I am new to trucks and this thread, so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong area. But I searched looking for what I needed and found this blog. I am in need of the trim rings you are discussing here, WITHOUT the red rings....I guess the original part number was FOTZ-1210A.....Anyone here know of NOS or nice used set available please? I am in Atlanta and my phone is 404-229-2529....Thanks, Mark.

Anyone have a PN for the 82-89 trim rings and maybe a source? Some er... lets just say fudgesicle stole my set...

Also, Those steel wheels with 31x10.50's will rub at full lock on the radius arms. But only at full lock. I never let it bother me. That's with a 4x4 though.

4.5" bolt circle

Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle.

So why and what reason would ford put 4.5 bolt circle? That would be Ford car bolt circle on a truck. I assume the offset would be??? For a truck and backspacing??? Just curious . If anyone knows would appreciate it. In case need to buy some wheels. thanks
