I am not however having a common problem. My window works fine up and down with the inside switch. my problem is with the key activated switch within the rear gate. It doesn't work. can anyone tell me how i can check this or where i can get a good deal on a new one? any help will be greatly appreciated.
1) Lower window all the way
2) Lower tailgate
3) Remove access panel
4) move window up w/ tailgate lowered to allow access to the key switch
5) remove, repair or replace key switch.
I can still feel the clicks and stops as it presses the switches but nothing happens. I even went as far as watching the volt meter on the dash board to see if it moved any when the key was turned but nothing happened then either...
That is the exact same problem I have with my 88 XLT. I was under the impression the the wiring to the key switch was bad. Still don't know for sure, but you can bet I'll keep an eye on this thread!
my rear window stopped working with the key also. if you open the tailgate and look on the drivers side you will see the wireing that goes to the switch and motor and rear defrost. when i cut open the harness the wire that sends power to the switch had rotted through and broke. spliced a new piece in and it works like a charm. my 91 only has one circuit breaker for the rear window and i know if i take it out the window does not work from either switch. check the wire and i almost bet that is where the problem is
I've just repaired the same problem. Before you start, cutting things out first make sure there's voltage at the switch.
If not start working your way back until you find out where voltage is.
My problem was a corroded wire at the harness, underneath, just before the left taillight. I never thought to look there, because the taillight always came on. I seems that they are separate. Would have save me some cash as I brought a switch and spliced it in place of the old one.
