I've looked at Motorhaven and Dennis Carpenter for outer bed skins for my 79 F100. The panels available are either patch panels or $500 factory replacements. While a factory replacement would be the ultimate, its a little pricey since I have to replace both complete bed sides. This is my first project like this so I'd prefer not to experiment with $1,000 worth of sheet metal.
Is there another option for purchasing replacement bed sides?
I think there ARE suppliers out there for complete panels. They MAY be "offshore" though. Seems I've seen some of that stuff at swap meets and such. Might try Mill Supply in Ohio.
Worth a try ?? I know a good used but rust free bed can get pretty pricey too. (been there)
Good luck,
Hey man.
I was down at my local offroad shop (big island off-road) BS;n with the dude for a while. Anyway we were looking through one of his books of panels ands what not. For one side of my box, the replace panel is about 60$ canadian. So I guess you just tack weld it on or whatevr. Im gonna get the one side soon cause its gone to @(#^.
Good luck anyways.
The sides of mine are badly rusted too, but I live in England where F250's are *slightly* less common than in the US (mine is the only one I've ever seen over here), so it's either spend months of evenings and weekends repairing it or ditch it totally and make myself a flatbed.
My original plan was to repair the original body in the interest of keeping things as the lord intended them, but having removed it I really think starting from scratch is the best way. I even think selling the good bits off would pay for the materials to build it (the previous owner paid £200 ($300 US) for a good tailgate).
I have found a local supplier in Bangor, ME that sells aftermarket body panels (complete bed sides/skins) for my 79 F100. The source is overseas and I imagine everyone uses the same source......ya know?
Odd, though, no one seems to sell replacement panels for 78-79 Broncos anymore.
Thanks,
John

they have body panels for pretty much every truck/bronco you need. They have complete bed sides for 73-79's also. Just go and order a free cataloge, and it will be in with in a week or so. They are based out of lanexa kansas.
