Whether you know it or not we ALL appreciate all the time an aggrivation that goes into this particular forum, especially with the new motor. I only hope that some of these people that haven't yet figured out that Ford rushed this motor do and will stop raving everytime the clock goes back to midnight. Some of the people I can understand massive engine faliures, but the little ones that don't really hurt the performance and are more nusiance than anything get old... I feel for you, I hope Ford and Navistart find a fix, I am wanting a 6.0 but am waiting until the majority of bug are fixed. I support you guys 100% and hope that these people get their trucks fixed, I see alot of repeat posts, (under different threads) so getting an actual number of new complaints is kinda hard. So keep it up, we all appreciate what YOU DO and the way you it.
Thank you.
There is a lot to like about this new engine but if it won't run right, that is where the attention is going to be focused.
One of the nicest cars I ever owned was an 88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe but every so often the torque converter would unlock while I was driving (most people probably wouldn't have even noticed) and there was nothing I could do to get it to lock back up. This was one fine automobile. But that one glitch made me so mad that I finally got rid of it. Sometimes it is easier to focus on what makes us mad than what makes us glad -- it is in the genes.
I am a Ford person. I've had them since 1959 and will continue. I own my 1st PSD, 2001 7.3 and am very pleased with the truck. I had/have a problem with a clacking noise, like a rocker arm, occasionally, but it has absolutely no affect on performance. I had it in at dealership and they replaced all lifters on pass. side at 34900 mi.. That really didn't have any affect on it, so I am driving it. The noise is noticeable sometimes, but it has 56000 mi. on it now and nothing has changed, just getting better. Do you have any suggestions what this "clacking" noise may be.
Yes, you are a victim of the infamous "cackle." It is caused by ingestion of air on the suction side of your inline fuel pump (the Ford people should have known that instead of replacing perfectly good lifters). If you look around on some of these forums for the cackle issue you'll find some solutions to the problem. If, on the other hand you decide to live with it, I can assure you that it will never hurt your engine and don't let any of these people who want to make some money off your fear of damage to your engine get into youre wallet.
In Tank and Pre Pump modification should cost no more than $20 in parts and take around 3 hours at the most to complete. We did 16 trucks in one weekend at the Southeastern Diesel Rally in Starke Florida last year. The $40 oil crossover line will help a lot too.
I have an engine build date of 19 Dec 02 from Huntsville, AL. I have had rough idle, romp, poor gas mileage, and engine dying. But all this is spurotic, only thing constant is the wet flywheel housing. have not had the recalls done yet, waiting till they get it right I hope.
