Just got a 6.0L XLT 4x2 2 weeks ago.... Just breakin' it in this weekend. I can't believe how nice this truck runs! It 'floats' down the hwy like I'm on a magic carpet. I cannot hear the motor at all when at fwy speeds. During fill-ups dodge and chev diesel owners came over and asked me how I like it and how much I paid.. its a pretty cool feeling... I didnt buy this truck to get looks or say 'my Ford is better than your xyz brand' or anything like that. I like all the brands and like competition between manufacturers, that competition makes them ALL better... I just really like the look of the F250, and ford trucks do have a great reputation. My little ranger 3.0L v6 has gone 5 years without ever having seen the inside of a dealership garage, just oil changes, and tires, thats it....
I also like the fact that this new motor got 19MPG combined driving (about the same as my ranger!!!!), I took country back roads and went through plenty of towns to keep the engine speeds varied for the new break-in... 4 tank fulls gave the same mileage readings... needless to say, I am impressed with this mileage...
This weekend I drove from San Diego through Death valley area into Pahrump Nevada to attend firearms training. On the way back, I took back roads (and some I-15) went through Palmdale and scenic highways to Ventura, CA. All I can say is this truck can run.... and it seems to LOVE the heat as well, the gauges wouldn't budge above half way, and it was over 102 this weekend... of course the real test will come when I get to tow something, but not during initial break-in.....
Thank you Ford, for my best truck yet... (daily truck owner/driver since '86).
Great story. I posted some info about my weekend trip yesterday. My wife was actually upset when I blew past a brand new Chev 454 with a camper same size as mine. That Chev must have had 4.10 gears cause it was screaming. She was upset because she hit the overhead computer and saw that I was getting 14.8 mpg flying up a 6% grade at 12k gross (her brand new Dakota Sport Plus Quad cab doesn't get that good on the freeway) How can you beat that?
Keep the good stories comming. We hear so much negative about these awesome trucks. I had a similar story on a 750 mile trip from Los Angeles to Vegas, around Vegas, then to Laughlin, then back to Los Angeles. Got 19 mpg doing 75 to 85 (OK, I admit it, sometimes 90 mph). I stomped on it every chance I got, and it runs flawlessly!
