Hey i have got a load clunking sound coming from the rear of my truck. i think its either a u-joint, or something in the rearend, it only does it when i take off from a stop. if anyone has any ideas please write back. thanks
Could be a u-joint. To check them, Park the truck on level ground. Chalk the wheels, put the truck in neutral, get under the truck and rotate the driveshaft back and forth. Look for play in the front and rear u-joints. If they seem tight, the rearend may have alot of slop in it.

Lots of responses on this subject if you go back far enough....say 4/8 weeks.
If you have a 4x4, check the "yoke" splines they may be dry. I had the same problem with mine.
I lubed mine with "ford" teflon grease and have not had the problem since. Mine only clunked at take off.
Simple, remove the 4 bolts holding the driveshaft assy (at the rear) then slide assy out (mark everything first).....jack the rear up first....brace the front wheels.
Could be the carburetor. I had the same problem, turned out to be a combination of things, primarily stumble at idle and the trailer hitch making noise.
Just something to check. My truck did the same stuff. Swore it came from the back end, or the brakes were going out. I adjusted the carb and now it works pretty good. I just see it as 1 thing to eliminate. Could very well be the u-joints, driveshaft needing grease, or some form of binding.
i have an open differerental and with both rear tires off the ground they spin in the same direction and with my buddy tring to rotate one tire on way and mine the other they won't separate. I thought that they were supossed to rotate opposite directions? so i think my open has fussed in to a spool any thoughts
WE HAD THIS PROBLEM IN A 74 F 150 IT TURNED OUT TO BE A SMALL MARK OR STRACH IN THE U LOINT CAPS IT SEEM FUNNY THAT A SMALL MARK COULD MAKE A NOISE BUT REPLACED IT AND IT WAS GONE MAYBE THATS IT WELL GOOD LUCK
