I have a 400bb in my 83 F-100. The rear main is going out. Im wondering if anyone knows about this or has done one. Do I need to pull the motor, or can I just drop the oil pan and tranny?

If you have an F100 and if you have a 400, it was swapped in. Largest available V8 offered in 1980/83 F100's: 302 2V.
Only 1980/82 F150/350's & Bronco's were available with 400's. No 400's were factory installed after 1982.
You will have to take the engine loose and lift it up and put it on blocks so you can get the oil pan off. Then you can take the rear main cap off, and you will have half the seal in your hand. You then turn the engine has you carefully push the top half of the seal out. This is assuming you have a newer plastic/rubber style seal. Ford used the rope type seal for a long time. Your new seal will probably be the rubber type.
Do a google search on how to get the new upper half of the seal in place. It's a little tricky. You have to slide it around while turning the engine.
