Have been doing alot of brake work on my '99 E150 lately. so far I've done:
rear drums/shoes
front calipers, rotors, pads,flex hoses
brake lines
MC
before I call it complete I would like to replace the entire emergency brake cable. has anyone done this. I know everything is rusted up. also having trouble finding the parts.
Thanks
I've found a few of the intermediate cables at my local NAPA store. The '99 model year should be backward and forward compatible with other years--can't believe those cables would be in short supply.
I can post OEM numbers out of my crash book if you need? Mostly they should be easily searchable online somewhere though.
Also try Rock Auto or FleaBay if you're not in a huge hurry.
Well ran into a snag with the parts. everything except the right rear cable came in several inches too long. Napa looked up my order and found the parts are made for a stripped chassis. I have a standard cargo van 138" wb. however the only part they can get exact length is the intermediate cable and maybe the front cable. the right rear is 1-2 inches longer but I think it will work. am having difficulty finding that drivers side rear cable.
Is it possible to use the longer cable anyway? Apart from it not fitting exactly like the original the extra length shouldn't be a problem per se. Don't take that to be a go ahead from me but something to consider if the original parts are so tough to get.
If all else fails maybe check one of other big local retailers: O'Reilly's, AutoZone, Advanced, Car Quest etc etc etc---someone somewhere has to sell them!
I guess anything is an improvement since the old parts were seized up. I can get all the parts to work except the drivers side rear but will keep searching. Thanks
