parking brake link missing in rear brake

Hello all,

I have a 77 F100 302 2wd short bed.

What I need: part number for a "parking brake link" and "parking brake link spring" for the driver's side rear drum brake.

I was replacing the cable actuated parking brake cable from the equalizer to the brake drums because the PO decided to cut the cables. I replaced the passenger side rear just fine. I went to the drivers side and noticed the above part was missing! I imagine this is why the PO decided to cut his parking brake cables.

I believe I need this part so the parking brake won't stick when I use it. The problem is I can't find this part at Advance Auto Parts or O'reilly. Anyone know where I can find one of these parts? Is the junk yard my best bet? If so, what vehicles are compatible with the parking brake/drum brake system?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I don't know where u are located but your best bet is to get the parts you need at the wrecking yard of your choice. Find the same truck as yours and get everything you need. Where I live pick & pull has 100's of those....

Only if the brakes are the same diameter. 10" brakes commonly used on cars would most likely have a shorter bar than the 11" brakes used on most pickups.
I believe the bar is the same from 73 thru at least 86, perhaps even into the 90's. Nearly everything else is the same on the rear brakes, so I can't see why this part would change..... Numberdummy could confirm/deny this, if he sees this thread.

At one time, these could be purchased at most any parts store. Likely still available, if you can find someone that actually knows how to read the books rather than simply relying on the computer to hunt parts for them.

D1AZ-2A601-A (replaced: C8TZ-2A601-A) .. Parking Brake Link Spring / Right/Left is the same / Front/Rear/Right/Left is the same 1968/72 F100 w/drum brakes / Available from Ford.

Applications: 1968/79 F100 / 1969/74 E200 / 1975/96 F150 / 1975/96 E100/150 / 1976/96 Bronco / 1980/83 F100 with 11 x 2 1/4" rear brakes // 1972/78 Galaxie/LTD / 1972/79 Thunderbird.

1973/77 Maverick/Comet with 10" brakes / 1974/79 Torino/Cougar/Ranchero/LTD II with 11" x 2 1/4" rear brakes / 1975/78 Granada/Monarch w/10" brakes.

I didn't look after 1979 for Passenger Cars, but prolly fits all sorts of 1980's Passenger Cars as well.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C5AZ-2A642-A .. Parking Brake Link / Right/Left is the same / Front/Rear/Right/Left is the same 1968/72 F100 w/drum brakes / Obsolete

Applications: 1968/79 F100 / 1975/79 F150 / 1976/79 Bronco // 1965/71 Galaxie/LTD / 1967/71 Thunderbird.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It took me a while to find the following info.

D4VY-2A642-B .. LEFT Rear Parking Brake Link (multiple replacement for C5AZ-2A642-A ~ D4VY-2A642-A: Right Side) / Available from Ford.

This part number update ONLY affects the following: 1980/83 F100 with 11" x 2 1/4" rear brakes / 1980/96: E100/150 & F150 & Bronco // 1976/79 LTD/Torino/Cougar/Ranchero/Thunderbird/LTD II.

The applications for C5AZ-2A642-A still apply.

Both these puppies should be available from every autoparts store.

Gentleman,

Thank you all for your assistance. Number dummy, thanks to your part numbers I managed to find the exact parts on eBay. 15 for the link and 12 for a pair of springs. Not cheap but I saved time and gas money by not having to find this at a junkyard.

Parts should be here in a week...will update then on progress.

P.s. I couldn't find these parts at any auto parts store online or offline. Only on eBay.

Did you call somebody at a parts store and ask? Not everything is listed on Web sites.

There's also NAPA and CarQuest.

I went to advance first, nothing in computer and the parts book at the store didn't go back to 77, he said. Oreilly was next, just a computer search at the store which came up blank. Called oreilly store today for a similar part, guy called back later and said they didn't have it. I didn't check napa or carquest. Online I checked lmc, dennis carpenter, ford parts, mac auto...none had this part.

(sigh) You don't seem to "get it."

Both parts are available from Ford! Both parts were used on myriad 1968/79 Passenger Cars / 1968/83 F100's / 1975/96 E100/150's, F150's and Bronco's.

If autoparts store computers don't list the parts for a 1977, who gives a hoot? Ask for the parts for a 1996 E150 or F150 or Bronco.

I find it hard to believe that autoparts stores wouldn't have these two parts considering the gazillions of 1968/96 vehicles that used them.

See post #7, I listed more than enough applications to help you find the parts. It seems you didn't look at any of them.

D1AZ-2A601-A .. Parking Brake Link Spring / MSRP each: $4.40 / FTE sponsor TOUSLEYFORDPARTS.COM price each: $2.90.

D4VY-2A642-B .. Left Parking Brake Link / MSRP: $9.98 / TOUSLEYFORDPARTS.COM price: $6.59.

Instead of buying on ebay (not the most reliable of sources), you coulda bought them in MN from Tousley Ford for $12.39, instead of paying $27.00 on ebay.

I looked at your profile to see where you live: KS / So, it's possible that a local to you KS Ford Dealer may have both parts. I did a search, 5 KS Dealers list them.

Some peeps on FTE do not list the city/state they live in...why I dunno...cuz it's a PITA when trying to help them. Look at the right upper corner of this post.

I added my hometown to allow others to see it when I post. There is a learning curve to this forum (probably any forum). In the past 48 hours I've learned how to:

1. post pics
2. fill out my profile to allow others to see my hometown
3. Read number dummy's entire post so that I avoid
a) spending too much on parts
b) avoid sad smiley faces and wasting his time

After reading number dummy's post again, I called 4 ford dealerships in the area. They could order them in but the price wasn't any better. The closest dealership that had them in stock (per Bob Allen Ford parts guy) was in Mountain Grove, MO, which is near Springfield, which is a 2 hour drive.

Tousley Ford Parts depot did have them for much cheaper than what I bought them for. Number Dummy, I will definitely seek Tousley out in the future when looking for parts.

Thanks again,

John

Wow, ND's post caught me a little off guard. I was reasonably sure the parts needed were the same well into the 80's, but never expected them to have remained the same thru 96....

I, too, find it hard to believe this part is not stocked or available within 24-48 hrs at most parts stores. All it takes is for 1 hold down pin to fail, and everything inside the drum can become junk, rather quickly.
I know when I was working at the parts store, we kept these in stock. Most likely because we averaged at least 1 sale per week.....
