Hey guy I need your help! I'm new to the diesel world I know my way around the truck pretty good but am finding out they are very picky when it comes to voltage...so here's my story
About a month ago I bout my baby 2000 f250 7.3 150k and about two weeks ago I was at a buddy's house I went to leave mind you it's 50 outside and the trucks been sitting 3 hours tops well I turn the key the wts light turns off I wait another 3 sec and go to start it as soon as it starts turning over I hear a buzzing noise like something arcing just what it sounds like! Well every now and then I get this noise but also ill go to start it and the volts are low so low it almost wouldn't start but it's not like this all the time even if I drive it 10 mins the. Go to start it the volts will be low then other times it'll be normal and fire right up! I went to the zone they tested everything and said everything was ok battery's starter alt so now I'm lost on what's going on? I did notice that when u was there the volts were fine. I do not have a gauge this is off the dash! Please help he said one battery was low but was still 100% he recommended me not replacing it..... What ya guys think? Sorry for the life story just wanted to be full with it!
I dont know how the battery could be low & still be 100% - Did you check all the connections at battery's & starter & make sure theyre all tight ? A loose connection can cause it to draw down on startup. Might want to take it to another place to have it checked. Also where does the buzzing noise sound like it,s coming from ?
It's in the cab I also forgot that when I turn the key on the radio comes on kicks off then comes back on I'm assuming from low voltage I just checked everything again and the neg on the pass side battery wasn't real loose but I moved it with my hand so I tighten it up I'm gonna drive it and see if it starts better in the am when I go to work!! As far as autozone that's why I don't go to places like that lol and I heard that noise again sounds like it might be coming from the speakers maybe just from engine noise but the terminal was lose!
Well the truck started great and has all day!!! The volts are where there suppose to be I can't believe a slightly lose terminal could cause the draw thank you so much! Great forum
Yeah, these are very susceptible to any drop in voltage, and I know from my boat batteries (saltwater boat) that those terminals have to be cleaned and tightened several times a year. Just because they are touching doesn't mean it has good conduction.
Also, the glow plug relay in these trucks has been known to go bad, and can make arcing noises in the process. It also has nothing to do with the WTS light, that's just a dummy light. The GPR can remain on long after the light goes out.
