2000 F250 wont start CLICK CLICK CLICK

Have a 2000 F250 7.3. The truck was kinda acting funny latley. One morning the truck would not start. The Starter Solinod on the firewall was just making a clicking noise? So I got a new one and put on there thinking that was the problem. Nope. Still is just making the clicking noise. Does anyone possible know whats causing this? Could that mean the starter is craped out? For a while we kinda had to push up on the transmission shifter to the park position to get it to start. That no longer works Any input would be very much app

Are your battery connections clean and tight? For that matter, are the batteries in good condition?

I had a similar issue recently...Slow cranking but would start. And this was with two new batteries.

After a couple of days, the passenger side battery would be low on juice but the drivers side was 12.8v. The batteries and the alternator checked out ok, then after reconnecting the cables on the passenger battery, it would crank normal again. After a day or so it would go back to slow cranking.

I finally loosened up the terminals just enough to be able to move them...moved them back and forth a few times to "grind" into the battery post, then tightened a little more..did the moving agian..then tightened it up good and snug. Hasn't happened since. Seems the connection wasn't quite there.

Check your starter bolts for tightness. Had one fall out once and lost 'ground'.

Have you tried to 'Jump start' it with another truck/car?

If there is a "nuetral" safety switch, and if that was bad, then i'd think you wouldn't get the clicking sound. I'm leaning on a bad starter, but thats why installed a starter relay LED too...

Your neutral safety switch could be weak and failing to fully engage the solenoid. Try putting the trans in neutral and starting it, or hold the key in the start position while jiggling the shifter. If it fires up, then I'd replace the neutral safety switch.

Also, try jump starting it, and if it still won't crank, then it's likely not your batteries.

I'd take the starter out and have it tested. Mine did the click click click... Had both batteries tested and they were fine. The starter took a dump.

For symptoms like what your having, i installed an LED off the starter relay, so i know if its the relay (led lights up, then i know power problem is after relay), or doesnt light up, then its relay or before it....

I suggest taking the starter out and having it tested at the local parts store.

What was the final solution. Mine is doing the same thing. I took the starter out and tested it and it is working fine.
