49 F3

Just picked up this 49 F3 in great shape. Body and frame are great just surface rust. Pulled a head off motor and some rust for sure in there. Has the V8 flatty. These motors worth rebuilding or can something else easily drop in? Paid $2200 may have over paid but I wanted it! Needs glass but everything works great and is not all rusted out.

Welcome to the forum. Some engines are worth rebuilding and some are not. Nothing else will "drop in" but there are engines that fit. Be aware that you have a 45 MPH truck when you remain with stock gearing, wheels, etc. Great that you start with a rust free truck. What do you plan for it? We do like pictures.

Hey Rooster,
The other really easy method for posting pics - Join the Forum ($20) & then you get minimal advertising & a little paper clip icon you can just click & post from your harddrive.

I think you did ok on price if the body is solid. The drivetrain can be
upgraded - it's fairly straight forward. I'd say the most common upgrade on engines is something from the 289/302/351W family of Ford engines.
We went with a 351W with an Edelbrock top end - nice amount of torque & HP but thirsty around town.

Good luck over there & welcome!

Welcome Rooster, I feel your pain about the pictures posting. What helped me was a smart daughter-in-law. Once you figure it out, its not too bad. Good luck!

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

My welcome too. Love the F-2s and F-3s. Not sure how much reading you've done to learn about the truck, but this below old thread contains a lot of good information about the breed. One thing you'll want to look at will be replacement of the 17" wheels. Stu

Welcome to another F3 Lets see some pictures , which ever way you choose to post them . As to the motors being worth rebuilding a lot needs looking at by you . First is the condition of the block ( and general engine condition) . The second is how much money are you prepared to spend on this new toy .
