Everything you need to know is in this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-update-2.html
After doing it a few times I like the way shown in the picture on page 2 that shows prying against the base of the alternator.
pic 4 shows no fan shroud. my shroud is def in the way. can this come out without removing fan?

You don't have to remove anything to replace the belt.
Josh
You don't have to but 30 seconds to remove the shroud extension (not the fan or shroud) on top sure makes it easier. AFA removing any other appendages nothing else is necessary.
Prob just stating the obvious, but lay the belt over the coolant pump pulley, getting it lined up is basic, but you do have to bend the belt n route it behind the tensioner pulley. I remember the first time I ever changed one on a 6l. It was similar to my very first air filter change. Lol
at the risk of sounding dumb.....i cant seem to get anything loose there. can anyone detail getiing shroud or top half loose ?
There is 2 8mm bolts going onto the radiator. You should take the radiator supports off and free the power line so the radiator can be moved toward the front of the truck. It's kinda a tight squeeze to clear the fan clutch with the bottom of the shroud. Gotta remove the hoses from the top of the radiator also.
I actually remove the radiator every time I change mine n use it as an excuse to hose out all the heat exchangers. If you remove the fan clutch also,, it is a great chance to inspect for leaks n stuff. A long screwdriver through the holes in the coolant pump pulley and a pipe wrench with a breaker bar would work to get the clutch off. But I've got the tool that fits it, but it can b done without the special wrench.
The small extension in front of the alternator comes off easy if a few inches would help. Pull back the rubber tube looking piece between the extension and the shroud. You will see several interlocking tabs that can be pried loose with a small pocket screwdriver. Work your way around undoing each of the tabs as you go. It will snap back on with no tools.
