460 water pump

I replaced the pump on a 93' 460. The old pump had a plate on the back, the new one didn't. It also came with one gasket. I obtained another gasket and installed the new pump w/ the plate from the original. Probably a mistake as my crank pulley is now slightly offset from the pump pulley, say the width of the plate. I guess the plate is a spacer and not needed?

After searching for the water pump plate most are saying the plate is necessary, but not all. I will try to shim the crank pulley. Any issues there?

IIRC some pumps were intended to be ran with, some where intended to be ran without.

so when you put the plate on a pump that didn't have one, the pulleys won't align.
