Proper Boost pressure?

I recently added a few gauges EGT, fuel pressure and boost 3 in one on the A-pillar also water and oil temp. all seem to work fine but I'm not sure what the boost is supposed to be. It reads 1 at idol and climes to 18 if you push it. is this normal?

Thanks

Depending on year model, flash, and how hard your pushing it you should see up to about 26 psi.

I just went through this. After a long drawn out search it turned out to be a leak on the exhaust side on the turbo housing(not typical problem). I would check all the connections from the turbo through the intake and make sure nothing is cracked.

Also check the exhaust y pipe and specifically the y pipe to turbo connection as that is a problematic area. With all that work you had done that connection may not have been lined up correctly before clamp was installed. If it is not 100% correct the clamp will not pull the connection together.

so should it be reading more pressure at idol or while running? We had a leak when we did the head gaskets and up-grades. The Y pipe was a real PITA to get seated correctly. It doesnt sound like it is leaking or smell like it. Before we were getting exhaust in the cab. Thanks

I see right around zero on my scan gauge for boost. On my exhaust leak it was very slight. Could only smell exhaust in the can every now and then. If you have one of those inspections mirror look around that clamp and see of you see any soot. I was also so quiet you could hardly hear it.

With the truck running unplug the VGT plug on the turbo and see if you can hear anything change in sound like a slight hiss dropping off. There is so much racket going on it is hard to hear a slight exhaust leak.

so 1 psi at idol is ok. We did a smoke test after we got the leak thats how we figured out where it was leaking and if we got it seated right.
