Apples to apples

So I am not concerned with conventional oil. As far as that goes I use delo and rotella in my 86 6.9 diesel. What I was wondering is if Anyone can provide good evidence that one is better than the other? I'm not talking about the 4 ball test either. I don't feel that is concrete enough. Some alstrailian mag did some good testing on royal purple I believe. I've searched the web and haven't come across anything very good. So stores are welcome although not " my best friends sisters boyfriends" stores but personal expirence. I think 25000 oci are a bad idea but 3k 3 month is probably overkill for most Pps too. I will be rebuilding my truck soon and would like to switch but I want the best. So amsoil or royal purple? I'm looking for best break in and longevity. As well as maybe a 5-8k oci depending g on use. I do know that I trucks some years ago they dyno'd a truck with conventional oil and RP and there was a significant gain in wrhp although I recognize a tv show isn't the most reliable source.

It mostly depends on the application, i.e. the exact motor and how it's driven. Start with a brand of oil you like that meets the manufacturer's service requirements, run it for a while, then send it to a lab for analysis, then get someone knowledgeable to help interpret the results. It can be pricey, though.

FWIW, I work with Terry Dyson at http://dysonanalysis.com/.
