4 Wheel Drive not engaging
Say anybody have any ideas why my 4 wheel drive is not engaging on a 2001 F150. The indicator lites on the dash illuminate to suggest that the truck is in 4 wheel drive but sigh...it stays in 2 wheel drive. No gross sounds and the idicator lites are not flashing. Could this be a fuse or a relay issue of some sort. Any ideas or what else should I try? Thanks!

Check the actuator on the front axle for moving the locking collar.
The system can't tell if the actuator has done it's job.
The dash light is operated from the firewall solenoid, and assumes the actuator will complete the lockup of the front axle.

Need to check all the vacuum lines associated with this system. I'm betting you have a broken one somewhere under the hood in the vicinity of the battery. There is a vacuum reservoir behind the battery. If any of the lines leading to it are broken, it won't engage the 4wd. Chances are you dashboard isn't working properly either.
