I can't find my ECU Code!!! I know I could take out my ECU, but I don't feel like it, why can't I find my code? And who knows the easiet and fastest way to remove your ECU (in a 96)? Please reply if you know!!
Look in the engine compartment where the ECU bracket sticks through. Using a small mirror, see if you find it on the bracket or on the wiring harness connected to it, on the side facing the inner fender.
redlead, just a question about 96 trucks..My haynes manual says that you must go to Ford to pull trouble codes from this ECU...(ie you cannot jumper the leadas and monitor with a meter or flash outs on the dash light)
What expereince have you had with this? did you have to buy a code reader?
I am looking at buying a 96 F150, and worndering if I am gonna have some headaches in that department...
I bought a code reader from Checker for my 96 E250. It seems to work really good it is a new system on the 96 and new vehicles. With numbers and letters for codes that is why you can't jumper the connector and read the flashes. I have been having trouble with my 96 since about 50,000 MI (now 115,000 MI) and I don't know if it is because of the first year problems with this new system or what.. My 94 seems to run better and have more power, and it has 215,000 MI on it. I would think about maybe and older or a newer one and not the first year for any new stuff like motors and ignition stuff. Ford doesn't have the 4.3 anymore.
