Hey I just bought a '95 F-150 5.8 w/E4OD. Well it has a little back fire at idle to about 20mph and when I changed the plugs two cyls had oil on the plugs. Is there any chance that its only bad valves and not rings? The trans also has a shifting problem if I jump on it, it won't shift until It hits high rpm's the truck isn't equipped with a tac so I'm not sure how high exactly. If I drive easy and let off the throttle it'll shift but otherwise it won't, what could the problem be? When I put a fuse in the #8 position smoke start coming from where the stereo is supose to be and the gauges cluster I can't seem to find any bare or broken wires so I'm not really sure of the problem. Thanks for any help

Valve guide seals are a possibility. Piston rings are also possible. How many miles?

May not be a problem. If you're really on it, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't shift until around 5,000 RPM. May just be a different feel/sound than you're used to. Hook up a cheap tach, and see where it's shifting.
well the radio sounds like a short in the wiring or a problem with the radio itself. the trans wont shift until higher rpms if you romp it, thats how all automatic transmisisons work, as for the smoke theirs no way to tell for sure unless you tear into, depending on miles it could be a couple of different things, so how many miles does it have?
The #8 fuse is the reason why your transmission isn't shifting right. Without the #8 fuse in, your speedometer/odometer won't work either. Trans gets input from the speedo on when to shift, etc. You need to figure out what's shorted and causing the smoking when you put the #8 fuse in.
