ignition problem with rain 96 E250 4.3
I have a 1996 Ford E250 cargo Van with the 300 straight 6 (4.3liter) motor in it, with 115,000miles. I have been having problem when it gets wet with it dieing and not starting again untill the rain stops and it drys out. I bought OEM cap rotor and wires in June and put them on in the rain on the side of the road one day. It started and ran then but It seems to have a hessitation almost like a mechanical advance not working. I took it too the Dealer and told them to take a hose and spray right on the ignition parts. They said they couldn't find anything. I had them fix a gas leak and some suspension parts so I thought I would have them look at the ignition problem. I took the van home, it was misting out, I washed off the engine and of course it wouldn't start. I took out my Electric paint stripper and dryed off the coil and distributer and it started but had the hesitation and if you gave it gas too fast it died. I got it so it would stay running. So I soaked it when it was running and it died. I dried it out again and it started with the same hesitation problem and dieing. It rained here a lot last night and it died at Menards, this morning I went back no rain, it started but won't stay running, same problem as above. I ordered a new Distributer, Distributer cap, rotor, and wires and coil and ignition module. I figure to start with the new cap and wires and work my way from there.
any suggestions I know the 300six has problems because the distributer is on the side and water splashes up on stuff. My Dad used to spray down his ignition stuff with LPS 3 and change the cap, rotor and wires every 2 years.
anything please help
